Subspecies: F. c. coqui - South Africa, eastern Namibia & Botswana, north through Zambia, Zimbababwe & Malawi to central & northern Tanzania; F. c. hubbardi - western & southern Kenya; F. c. maharao - Northern Tanzania, Kenya & Ethopia; F. c. spinetorum - Western Africa, Angola to Zambia.
Range: South Africa, eastern Namibia & Botswana, north through Zambia, Zimbababwe & Malawi to central & northern Tanzania, western & southern Kenya, Northern Tanzania, Kenya - Ethopia, Western Africa, Angola to Zambia.
Habitat: Dry scrublands.
Status in Wild: Locally common in the southern regions of its range, uncommon and local in the northeast and uncommon to scare in western Africa.
