Shelley's Francolin

(Francolinus shelleyi)






Other Names: Peliperdix shelleyi

Subspecies/Range: Two now generally recognized, but up to seven once described; F. s. shelleyi - Patchy and broken, central Kenya and northern Tanzania, south to Mozambique and Natal; F. s. whytei - Northern Zambia and Malawi, Southeastern DROC (Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire). Past races include - uluensis, macarthuri, canidorsalis, trothae and sequestris; all now considered as shelleyi.

Habitat: Grasslands and open woodlands.

Status in Wild: Widespread and locally common.

Avicultural Data

Status in Aviculture: I have no information of this species in American aviaries.
