Stone Partridge

(Ptilopachus petrosus)




Range: Central Africa, from the Atlantic Coast east to western Kenya.

Subspecies: P. p. petrosus, which found in most of the range; P. p. major, isolated range in Eritrea.

Habitat: Dry scrublands.

Status in Wild: Locally common.

Avicultural Data

Status in Aviculture: Has recently been imported once again to the US and is breeding in private collections in Georgia. Measures are in effect to establish a captive breeding program to establish the species. They appear to be easy to keep and breed in a captive setting, so the outlook is good.
