Other Names: Swamp Partridge.

Range: Northern India and southern Nepal, in a narrow band to eastern Bangladesh and western Assam.

Subspecies: Generally accepted as monotypic.

Habitat: Damp grasslands along the floodplains of the Brahmaputra and Ganges Rivers.

Brief Description: Largest of the Asian Francolins, sexes are similar. Upper throat and chin rufous; crown, nape and mantled finely barred brown; breast and abdomen streaked white, black and brown. Males usually with one spur and females unspurred.

Status in Wild: Limited range and loss of specialized habitat has caused this species to decline; listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.

Avicultural Data

Status in Aviculture: No data; I have not found any recent or historical documents to shows this species in American aviculture.
