The Johnson County Fairgrounds are located in Downtown Gardner. Take exit 210 off I-35, go west on HWY 56 (Main Street) to Elm Street and turn right.
Main Arena Consignments: Various varieties of pheasants, peafowl, quail, partridge, francolins, wild ducks and geese, swans, pigeons and doves, rabbits, domestic waterfowl, bantam and standard chickens, guineas, sheep, goats, & used equipment.
Main Arena Poultry, Game Birds, Animals, & related equipment Check-in Times - 3/16 from about 7:15 A. M. - 6:30 P. M. & 7:30 - 8:30 P. M. All rabbits & pigeons must be checked in on 3/16.
Cage Bird Building Consignments: Large variety of aviary/cage birds, lizards, non-poisonous snakes, hamsters, guineas pigs and other small animals, and related equipment.

Warm Building: 10:00 A.M. - Chicks, goslings, ducklings, & turkey poults. 11 A. M. - Aviary birds & equipment.
Testing & Permit Requirements Birds - Anyone selling wild waterfowl must complete Sale Notice Form 3-186 and tuned in to the check-in people at the time the birds are checked in. Out of state: NPIP Members - 1. import permit - e-mail lvmarket@ink.org or call Chastity Flowers at 785-296-2326. Indicate that you are an NPIP member. KS Animal Health Dept. will mail the import application to your state for NPIP verification so you can consign birds using a VS Form 9-3. 2. No general health papers are needed to consign birds with the VS Form 9-3. Non-NPIP Members - 1. import permit, 2. general health paper in triplicate, 3. 4-part NPIP VS Form 9-2. Out of state sellers must present the import permit letter from KAHD before unloading birds. Anyone consigning any species requiring a Kansas Game Breeders’ Permit must show proof of legal ownership, possession, importation and/or other required documentation from the originating state (game breeders’ permit). (See list of birds under Kansas below.) Kansas: To sell chickens, guineas, peafowl, pheasants, & quail, you must present the 4-part NPIP VS Form 9-2 before the birds are unloaded. A Kansas Game Breeder’s Permit is needed to sell Ringneck Pheasants, Bobwhite Quail, Scaled Quail, game animals, & fur-bearing animals native to Kansas & exist as a wild population. Chicks under 4 months old must be from an NPIP flock. Bring the NPIP form for the breeder birds and write the number on the box. There will not be no pullorum-typhoid testing at the fairgrounds. Call Chastity Flowers, ph. 785-296-2326 for the name of a tester in your area app. 2 wks before the auction.
Commission - HOAGBA members - 15 % on on all sales. Non-HOAGBA members - 20% on all sales. Sellers’ checks may be picked up on late Saturday afternoon, or they’ll be mailed Monday.
If you want to participate in the drawing for a consignment number to sell in the main arena. Those not participating in the drawing will be checked in after those receiving drawing numbers.
Procedure for obtaining a consignment number:
1. No consignors, trucks, or trailers are allowed on the fairgrounds before the gates open at 5:00 P. M on Thursday, March 15.
2. Drawing for consignor numbers will be held in the main arena at 7 A. M. September 16 with check-in to follow immediately after. Both the consignor & birds to be consigned must be present at the time of the drawing.
3. The drawing is open any consignor. Anyone participating in the drawing should be prepared to donate 1 cage of birds or animals which will be sold as consignment 1 to benefit the Scholarship-Youth Project Fund.
4. Each person participating in the drawing will be given a slip of paper to write down his/her name, the number of cages to be consigned, and whether those cages are in 1 vehicle or two. As numbers are drawn, an officer will record the name of the person who drew the number and the number of lots that person is consigning.
5. The number drawn may not be reassigned, traded, or sold. Once the drawing for numbers begins, no one will be allowed to transfer cages from 1 vehicle or trailer to another. Each person consigning birds will need to have his own VS Form 9-3 or VS Form 9-2 papers. Anyone not in compliance with these specifications will not be allowed to sell at the fall auction.
6. Consignors must be present Friday when it is time for that number to check in. Anyone not present will be moved to a position after the last number drawn. i. e.: If 35 consignment numbers were drawn, he/she will now check in after consignor #35
Please note the following expectations of people attending the auction: (1.) Dogs are not allowed on the fairgrounds unless the person with the dog is visually impaired. (2.) No one except the consignor or a member of the HOAGBA Executive Board may open a cage for any reason once the consignment process has been completed. Sick, injured, or dead animal/ bird will be removed by the owner or a member of the Executive Board will remove it. (3.) HOAGBA acts as an agent for the consignors and makes no guarantees nor will it be responsible for injuries or fatalities of animals or birds or for the injury or loss of property of those attending the auction. (4.) There is a $2.00 NO SALE charge per consignment. (5.) Back alley selling of “No Sale” birds or birds picked up at a breeder’s farm prior to coming to Gardner is not permitted.

Terms of Sale: Cashier's check, cash, personal check (with your bank's letter of credit). harges will be filed with the Johnson County District Attorney against bad check writers. Buyers are responsible for picking up health papers and/or registration papers at the time of payment. Waterfowl transfers (Sale Notice Form 3-186) must be completed before any North American waterfowl can be removed from the area. This form is proof that the birds were legally obtained. |

Birds and animals must be visible and able to stand in cages. Cages for birds constructed of 2” x 2” or 4” x 4” wire will not be accepted. Birds must not be able to stick their heads through the cage wire. To meet the USDA requirements, wire-bottom cages will be accepted if straw or cardboard covers the bottom wire. No cardboard boxes or gunny sacks!! Cages sell with the animals and birds. Each cage must have a clean feed and water container appropriate for the size & number of birds or animals in the cage. Do not use plastic, paper, or Styrofoam water & feed containers. Hog ring or use a glue gun to secure the containers to the cage. It is the responsibility of the consignor to feed and water his stock daily. Make sure your cages are in compliance with these requirements before you leave home! Cages not in compliance will need to be fixed before we will accept them & you will then be checked in after the person who is being checked in at that time. Label the cage to indicate the species & number of birds/animals in it. Permit numbers (state and/or waterfowl) as well as the consignor’s state NPIP # must be written on the cage. Sale Notice Form 3-186 must be completed and tuned in to the check-in people at the time North American waterfowl is checked in. These cages must also have a handle so that the cage can be moved without one having to put his fingers inside the cage to move it. Nocturnal animals and marsupials, such as hedgehogs and sugar gliders must be be provided with a hiding place.
Small reptiles may not be sold in plastic deli cups/buckets. Incompatible animals can not be held in the same enclosure or placed near other animals that may become stressed due to their presence. Such animals must be held in a manner that ensures the safety of other animals and the public. Day-old chicks, turkey poults, goslings, & ducklings can be consigned in hatchery-type boxes provided they are not crowded. Cut out part of the top lid & cover it with screen or very fine wire so the birds can be seen. No paper limsy cardboard boxes will be accepted. Shavings or bedding must be placed in the bottom of the box. Label the box with the number of chicks & the species. REMEMBER, these are LIVE ANIMALS, all cages should be as humane and safe as possible. The club reserves the right to refuse consignment to anyone who does not meet these cage requirements. |

Article 10 - Public Livestock Markets - Regulations 47-1001 to 47-1013, a separate health paper in triplicate is required for each animal. Health papers must be given to check-in people before animals are unloaded. All tests must be conducted within 30 days of the sale. Cattle, Buffalo, Elk, Goats, & Llamas over 6 months old must have a negative TB and Bangs Test. Deer over 6 months old must have a negative Brucellosis test or have proof of being from an accredited Brucellosis free herd. Horse, Mules, & Donkeys must have a negative Coggins Test. All Swine must have a negative Pseudorabis Test. Fur-bearing animals including sheep, ratites, and all birds must have general health papers. New scapies regulations require that sexually intact sheep & goats sold for breeding be individually identified with a permanent form of identification. This can be done with a flock tag obtained from the premise of origin from the USDA, a USDA approved tag applied & premise of origin recorded at the sale barn or auction, or a registration tattoo. As it is impossible to know that sexually intact sheep & goats sold at an auction will be going directly to slaughter, all sexually intact sheep and goats should be identified. Auction records are available for inspection by USDA & state inspectors for 1 year or more. Bring your USDA/USDA, state game breeder’s permit, and/or waterfowl permit with you. A USDA license is required for anyone selling exotic wildlife including hedgehogs, short-tail possums, and sugar gliders. Kansas residents selling game birds (Ringneck Pheasants, Bobwhite Quail and Scaled Quail), game animals and fur-bearing animals that are native or indigenous to Kansas or exist as a wild population, must have a Kansas Game Breeders' Permit. Out of state consignors of any species requiring a Kansas Game Breeders' Permit must show proof of legal ownership, possession, importation and/or other required documentation from the originating state (game breeders' permit). |
