Dark-backed Wood-Quail

(Odontophorus melanonotus)




Other Names: Black-backed Wood-Quai.

Range: Very small range in northwest Ecuador and Southwest Colombia.

Subspecies: None.

Habitat: Forests.

Brief Description: Crown, back and wings dark brown; Chin, throat and breast rufous. Sexes similar.

Status in Wild: Vulnerable, threats include habitat loss and hunting.

Avicultural Data

Status in Aviculture: Currently not known by this author to be kept in aviaries. Vulnerable due to its restricted range, a captive breeding program may one day be beneficial.
