Brown Quail

(Coturnix ypsilophorus)




Other Names: Swamp Quail, Tasmanian Quail, Silver Quail, Australian Quail.

Range: Indonesia and Australasia.

Subspecies: C. y. ypsilophorus, C. y. australis, C. y. plumbeus,, C. y. monticola, C. y. dogwa, C. y. raaltenii, C. y. saturatior, C. y. mafulu,, C. y. lamonti.

Habitat: Grasslands near wetlands, swampy regions and forest clearings.

Status in Wild: Locally common in some portions of the range.

Avicultural Data

Status in Aviculture: The status of this species in American aviculture is uncertain, but the Brown Quail is a commonly kept aviary bird in its native Australia.
